PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Originally built in 1915, the Goldblatt building was recently designated a Chicago Landmark in 2013. In its lifetime the building has served many purposes, but most famously as the Goldblatt’s Department Store. In 1993, the 11-story 678,000 sq ft building was redeveloped into a $70 million institutional, retail, and commercial complex, undertaken with the help of the city of Chicago. The university occupies the upper six floors, while the city maintains offices on floors 2 through 5. DePaul officials said the renovation, designed by Daniel P. Coffey & Associates Ltd., will serve as a creative example of what can be done to revitalize an ailing urban area like South State Street became after Goldblatt’s closed.
